Performing True Humility! Part Three

Performing true Humility! Part Three

“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.” In John 13:14

In John 13:1-17, Jesus Christ depicts the true meaning of humility. Christ washed his disciples’ feet to show that true humility is putting others before ourselves. We should always be willing to serve and help others, regardless of our title or status. When we perform true humility, we are living out the gospel and imitating the example of Jesus Christ. In verse 15, Jesus said, “I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.”

In Christianity, the virtue of humility is highly-regarded. Performing true humility means disregarding one’s own needs to serve others. It means being willing to put the needs of others above one’s own and doing whatever is needed to help others. Christ showed us the importance of humility when he served his disciples by washing their feet. We, too, can do the same when we live true humility. To be a better leader, show your followers how to lead by example.

Mark 9:35 says, As Jesus sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” Amen.

We can also perform true humility by serving others in our everyday lives. This might include volunteering at a homeless shelter, helping a neighbor carry groceries to their car, or taking the time to listen to a friend who is going through a tough time. Even sharing our MagLife daily devotional is an act of service that shows God’s love for us. For example, one of my Muslim friends was humble enough to share our daily devotional with her friend one day when she struggled with depression. It amazed her that her friend called back to thank her for such generosity and compassion in saving her from suicide.

Likewise, we should be humble enough to do what is right and not afraid of what people say. When we perform true humility, we are following in the footsteps of Christ. We are setting aside our needs to serve others and help make the world better. Jesus says this is the way to true greatness instead of the worldly way of seeking greatness through power and status. Amen. Matthew 18:4 says, “Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

Prayer:
1. Thank you, Jesus, for washing my feet and showing me true humility.
2. Titus 3:2; Holy Spirit, help me to speak evil of no one, avoid quarreling, be gentle, and show perfect courtesy toward all people.
3. As you call upon the Lord today, I command the heavens to release your hidden or stolen inheritance and possessions in Jesus’ name. Amen.
