When it comes to influence and making an impact, particularly in a role such as service lead, the importance of your title pales in comparison to the growth and progress you inspire within your team. Indeed, titles can provide a useful designation of roles and responsibilities, but they seldom dictate true effectiveness.
In the endearing words of Jesus Christ – our greatest example of leadership – expressed in Matthew 23:11-12, The greatest among you will be your servant…whoever exalts himself will be humbled. This biblical verse encapsulates the profound essence that those who lead through service are often the most effective within their teams.
Philippians 2:15 says, “So that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine as lights in the world.”
Indeed, genuine impact lies not in a title’s weight but in exhibiting humility, fostering collaboration, and championing selfless service. As a service lead, embrace this mindset; serve without focusing on affirming your title. Strive instead to stimulate progress and growth within your team members for truly impactful leadership.
Your leadership value isn’t realized in the words before your name but by how you stimulate progress among those who choose to follow you. Be like Christ – lead by example, be personable, and encourage growth through your actions rather than resting on titles alone. Amen. Ephesians 5:1-2 says, “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Amen.
