“Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” Proverbs 16:24
We meet different people daily, those neatly dressed going about their business, those looking dejected, and those looking shabbily dressed. One thing is common: we notice the outward appearance of those we meet daily, and we are quick to judge them based on how they appear. What most people have failed to note is that clothing is a covering. It does not show what is on the inside of any person.
Kindness, as the dictionary defines it as the quality of being humane and sympathetic. We passed helpless and stranded people the many times, and we just passed them, the doorkeepers we overlooked, the helps we looked down on; all these show how unkind we are. You do not have to give money before you show kindness. Just saying, “Hey, you look great today!” can positively affect someone with low self-esteem.
Zechariah 7:9 says, “Thus says the Lord of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another.”
Say “thank you” to the gatekeepers, waiters, bartenders, etc. it will not cost you anything. Show love to everyone regardless of their social status. The stress everyone passes through daily tends to take its toll on anyone, and we tend to pass that aggression out on innocent people. This should not be so. Life is sweet when you show kindness.
Therefore, make a decision today to always smile and say kind words to everyone you meet. You might just be saving someone’s life. If you have to choose a personality, choose kindness because you can find overflowing joy in it. Proverbs 21:21 says, “Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor.”
1. I choose to be kind today. I prefer to reflect God’s love to others.
2. Oh Lord, help me every day to do good deeds in Jesus’ name.
