The Fear of God!
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7
This is a very common topic I have been listening to since childhood. The teachings were so scary during those times in children’s class, and then we saw “the fear of God” as a phobia. But gradually, these teachings were washed away with proper orientation and fellowship with the Holy Spirit. And I discover that fearing God puts us in a state of great discipline and obedience.
God is not interested in punishing anyone; He desires that everyone should do his will and obey Him; that is the core gist of fearing God. Deuteronomy 5:29 says, “O that there was such a heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children forever!
Proverbs 15:33 says, “The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, and humility comes before honor.”
So, fearing doesn’t mean we should be afraid; it should rather bring a sense of obedience and submission, and God even gives us blessings for fearing Him; “that it might be well with them and with their children forever.” Another important place the scripture talks about the fear of the Lord is Proverb 1:7. We can be confused about how the fear of the Lord is related to acquiring knowledge. But I tell you, that’s true.
Until you can allow God to instruct you and take the lead in your life, you will keep living according to the knowledge of this world. God’s instructions and leading might look foolish at times, but we don’t learn and acquire the wisdom behind them until we do them. Let God be the first in every one of your actions and expect the best result in life. Isaiah 8:13 says, “The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread.”
Prayer:
Put your Word inside me and teach me to fear you, Lord.
