The First!

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33

A young man struggled to open his friend’s refrigerator to take some chilled drinks and probably check for some small edible things. Shortly, the house owner approached him and told him to first get the key beside the door before having access to anything in the refrigerator. If you want all that you desired to get to quench your thirst and satisfy your hunger, you must, first, go to the safe, where you can find the key and have access to anything in the refrigerator.

Some teachings of Jesus to the disciples help us identify life necessities, including food, drink, water, and shelter. But he did not leave us in the dark on how to get these necessities to life. Not only these but everything we desire of life and want to become in life. He doesn’t want us to continually pursue the shadow of satisfaction while trying to take thought of life and what we desire of life. He shows us what to do.

Psalm 112:3 says, “Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.”

First, seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Of all things in life and of what life consists of, first, seek the kingdom of God. The amazing and awesome part of it is that our God, who is a loving Father, has a kingdom. You can imagine how glorious His kingdom looks like. If the earthly kingdoms are not characterized by poverty, lack, frustration but rather glory, splendor, abundance, plenty, treasure, how much more is the kingdom of our Father.

Therefore, to live rightly and to have all goodness and treasurable things we can ever imagine and crave for, we need to seek the kingdom of God. It is in it that all we seek and desire are embedded, and they become our possession and inheritance in God. 1 Corinthians 7:23 says, “You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of humankind.”

Prayer:
1. Father Lord, grant me to seek your kingdom and righteousness first, as you bless me with all goodness of life.
2. Oh Lord, give me the heart of worship filled with the Holy Spirit, that I may dwell in your presence forever in Jesus’ name. Amen!
