“For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly, so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” Matthew 12:40
The crucifixion of Jesus Christ, believed by Christians to be the son of God, remains one of the most significant events in human history. The sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross is seen as a powerful symbol of love, forgiveness, and redemption. Today, billions worldwide continue to draw inspiration from this event and its message. Jesus’ crucifixion has left an indelible mark on humanity’s collective consciousness.
His death and resurrection story is recounted in numerous texts, such as Matthew 28:6. This passage signifies Jesus’ victory over death and assures believers that mortality can be overcome through faith in Him. Jesus’ resurrection brought salvation to all who believed in him. It was also the beginning of a new era in which people believed again that nothing is impossible for God to accomplish. When Jesus died on the cross, he did not die and rise again in vain for us but rather to bring us into new relations with our Heavenly Father. That’s why He rendered Himself visible to everyone willing to see Him as the only way out of the darkness and into the light.
Matthew 28:3-4 says, “His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. The guards trembled in fear of him and became like dead men.”
We should never forget his death and resurrection because it reveals the secret of worship. While the guards trembled in fear when they saw Jesus’ face and heard his voice, the angel reassures Mary Magdalene and the other Mary who ‘seek Jesus’ not to be afraid but to go forward and spread the news. “The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.” Matthew 28:5. We are called to seek Christ and live by faith, but do we seek him?
Those who truly seek Jesus with purity of heart, joy in the Holy Ghost, and triumphant faith should not be afraid of those who look down on them. We are all sinners who found grace. However, those who seek Jesus Christ have the great opportunity to enjoy the greatest love that casts out fear and to experience the joy of God through faith because the impact of Jesus’ crucifixion today is its ability to bring hope to those who feel lost or alone. Amen. 2 Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”
Prayer:
- Lord, I thank you for your mercy and salvation in my life through Christ Jesus.
- Oh Lord, give me a pure heart to seek you faithfully and earnestly; seek you in truth and spirit in Jesus’ name. Amen.
