The Parable of the Sower! Part Three
“Other seeds fell among thorns, which grew up with them and choked the seedlings.” Luke 8:7
When Jesus spoke this parable, He was trying to help His disciples understand why some people who hear the gospel don’t get saved. The seed that falls among the thorns represents those who hear, but as they go on their way, they are choked by the worries, riches, and pleasures of this life, and their fruit does not mature (Luke 8:14). As a result, they never get around to doing anything with the gospel they heard nor allow God’s given dreams to take precedence because they’re too busy living for themselves.
As Christ instructed us in Matthew 16:24 (paraphrase) – if you aspire for growth in life, you must employ the duty of self-denial. It would be best if you avoided the care of the world and the deceitfulness of riches that will make your seed miserable and die because allowing them is like planting your seed of greatness among the thorns. Remember, the world is full of greed and envy. So, avoid the desire to be rich quick because it might bring misery and premature death (seeds fell among thorns). “The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and he added no sorrow with it.” Proverbs 10:22.
1 Peter 1:23 says, “For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.”
Don’t allow part of the world full of sin and evil to take advantage of you and choke the seed of life in your heart. Be wise how you mingle with friends and family who are full of good intentions but have not yet been saved. Remember, you are the seed of greatness in the world to change the world around you, but not them changing you. Jesus said, “Behold, I send you out as sheep amid wolves. Therefore, be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.” Matthew 10:16. Gaining the whole world to lose your soul or die prematurely does not worth it. Do not let the worries of the past, present, and future choke you.
Matthew 16:26 said, “Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” The answer is Nobody. But with faith in God, all things are possible for those who believe in Jesus Christ. Everything has an appointed time and place. We must wait patiently for the right time to come. The seed of greatness in you has an appointed time but needs your patience and perseverance to become fruitful. God’s promises are always there to be fulfilled, but give them a chance to grow and prosper you. “Be still in the presence of the LORD and patiently wait for God to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.” Psalm 37:7
Prayer:
1. Lord, thank you for your word that helps me grow in faith.
2. I come against every enemy’s plan that may want to destroy my seed of greatness in Jesus’ name.
