The Reliable and Unreliable Friend
One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverb 18:24.
“Seek not friends that die, or whom you must leave, but seek for One who never dies, and whom you can never leave.”(Enoch Mellor, D. D.). One of the descriptions the Lord Jesus gave us while His time was almost done on the earth is a friend. A friend is someone close to you and your situations. A reliable friend shares your moments with you and remains in all different circumstances, but unreliable friends will run away when you are down. There was the truth when Jesus said we are now friends and that’s because He wants to partner with us and manifest His personality to the world.
It takes a reliable friend with a good heart to support your ambition in free will. Like God wants our good heart in giving, sharing, and winning souls. Although we are serving Him, yet, He desires we serve Him as a friend service his friends. The mind of the desired service from God is the mind of a friend. God doesn’t want to compel us to serve Him; such servants are called servants of wrath. However, there is a kind of servant the scriptures refer to as the servants of mercy (Romans 9:22-23). It takes friendship with God to become His channel of the mercies to the world we are but much more, God can, and He will make all grace available for them to do something that manifests His glory to the earth.
The scriptures mentioned that there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother, and that’s who the Holy Spirit represents for us, His name is Jesus. The bosom of a man shares with his friend, and that’s another reason why we are called friends. God desires to share his secrets, His heart with us. This won’t happen until we desire that level of relationship with God. Today, as you step out, remember, God has called you a friend. Before seeking for another friend, seek Him who sticks to you more than anyone. Hold on to Jesus, because His friendship was of the same yesterday, today, and forever.
1. Lord Jesus, I thank you for your friendship. It’s been so long since I’ve had a friend like you.
2. Lord Jesus, I know you are my friend, and I take time to stay with you.
3. Every fly by night friends in my life, Lord Jesus close their chapter away from me now.
4. Blood of Jesus separate from me all unreliable and unprofitable friends, in the name of Jesus.
5. Holy Ghost fire, chase away every enemy that look like friend in my life, in the name of Jesus.
