The Truth!
“Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, But those who deal truthfully are His delight.” Proverbs 12:22
Dishonesty is an epidemic in our culture. Court records, academic surveys, and common observations confirm it. Truth and integrity are expendable in our society. Why do people lie? Or, to put it more subtly and inclusively, why do virtually all of us sometimes try to create an impression that isn’t entirely accurate?
There are many various reasons why people lie. These include a desire to stay out of trouble, a drive to get ahead, and an obsession with image. In any case, a person’s dishonesty indicates a lack of trust in God for the consequences of integrity. Even in a seemingly insignificant way, when we lie, that means our reliability and trustworthiness in God are not genuine enough. Do not let’s take matters into our hands because we’re afraid of what will happen if we tell the truth.
Luke 8:17 says, “For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light.”
We do not trust God to honor our integrity, but our God is a God of integrity. It is in His character. He never lies, and He is not silent when the truth needs to be revealed. It is His nature to be reliable. There is no hint of pretense in Him. He is whom He says He is, He does what He says He will do, and He honors those who follow His lead always.
Trust God with the truth. Tell it and display His integrity. Know that He will always defend the truth—and those who tell it. Psalm 120:2 says, “Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips and a deceitful tongue.”
Prayer:
1. Lord, help me to speak the truth at all times. I won’t fail you because of the lust of this world.
2. Psalm 34:13: Oh Lord, keep my tongue from evil and my lips from speaking deceit in Jesus’ name. Amen.
