True Identity!

“My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.” Luke 15:31

This verse is a portion of the story of the prodigal son. A man has two sons; the younger son woke up one day and asked his father for his property portion. I’m sure the father won’t have agreed at an instance to give him his inheritance; there would have been a lot of persuasion and argument.

The father eventually gave him. He went far and lavished his portion. After days and years, he began to suffer, then he came to his senses one day and returned home. He asked for forgiveness, his father was so happy that he returned, and then he began to celebrate. The older son arrived and saw his father celebrating his rude son, he became angry, and the father said, “…Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.”

1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

Could it be that this older son is not aware of his father’s riches? Or is he ignorant of what he has? And then his father had to remind him of his possessions. A good, diligent, and loyal guy to the father, but he has not enjoyed his father’s blessings; why? He is not just aware he could enjoy and have access to them.

Spirituality shouldn’t be our excuse for ignorance or lack. No wonder the bible says the sons of this world are smarter in their generation than the sons of light (Luke 16:8). Until we know our true identity in Christ, we will not be able to take what belongs to us in Christ. Can you join me in the journey to search the word of God for our true identity to be smarter than the sons of this world? Ephesians 1:3 says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”

Prayer:
1. Jesus, open my eyes to my possessions in you.
2. Psalm 139:14 – “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
