Uncovering God’s Mercy!
“Hegai was very impressed with Esther and treated her kindly. He quickly ordered a special menu for her and provided her with beauty treatments. He also assigned her seven maids chosen from the king’s palace and moved her and her maids into the best place in the harem.” Esther 2:9
God is always ready to show us mercy if we accept it. However, it is important to note that God’s mercy is not received by mistake; instead, it comes when we are willing to change our attitude and desire Him above all else. This message can be seen in the Bible in Esther 2:9, which states, “And the young woman pleased him and won his favor….” Here Esther embodies a true attitude of humility and respect for authority, allowing her access to God’s remarkable grace and favor.
The mercy of God is for everybody; the sure mercies of David, like we say, are for everybody, but they can only be provoked by something. It is triggered by the receiver, which means there is a condition attached to it at times. So don’t get it twisted and think that you are not worthy of God’s mercy, but rather pay attention to what God is saying at the given time because you deserve mercy. Remember, God’s mercy is not received by mistake. Rather, it must be sought out intentionally with a desire and attitude of humility. We must be willing to submit our will before him to receive his grace fully.
Romans 9:15-16, God told Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion. It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort but on God’s mercy.”
We can neither choose it nor work for it.” Even when Esther was selected to be the queen of Ahasuerus, something provoked it. She displayed a high level of respect and humility that triggered her to the position of queen by mercy. From Verse 15, “when it was Esther’s turn, (the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter) to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favor in the sight of all them that looked upon her.” You see, when others were choosing what seemed gorgeous to them, Esther wisely submitted to the directions of Hegai. She allowed him to make the choices as to how she would present herself before the king.
What about you? Are you still holding on to your heart’s desire (your choice), or do you want to allow Jesus (who is in charge of our soul) to make the choices for you, just as Esther submitted to the directions of Hegai? I am not saying that you shouldn’t choose what you want, but it’s important to remember whom God has chosen to lead us to the throne of grace and mercy. Ephesians 2:4-5 says, ” “… God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ, even when we were dead in our trespasses. It is by grace you have been saved!”
Prayer:
1. Thank you, Jesus, for your mercy and forgiveness.
2. I pray that the mercy of God will speak for you wherever your name is being mentioned across the globe in Jesus’ name. Amen
