“I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. This is the sign of genuineness in every letter of mine; it is the way I write.” 2 Thessalonians 3:17
As Christians, it is crucial for us to be discerning in what messages we consume. Not every message that comes our way is true or right according to God’s word. In 2 Thessalonians 3:17, Paul encourages us to examine his signature, indicating that even his words should be tested and scrutinized. Similarly, we are responsible for testing all spirits and ensuring that they align with the truth of God’s written epistle, the Bible. Just as we carefully choose what we eat to nourish our physical bodies, we should also carefully select the spiritual food for our souls.
In a world inundated with information and opinions, it can be challenging to distinguish between what is genuine and what is false. That is why we need not rely solely on our understanding but rather seek God’s wisdom through prayer and studying His Word. God has given us the ability to discern between right and wrong. We have been granted the precious gift of His Holy Spirit within us, guiding us in discerning truth from deception. It is through this guidance that we can recognize harmful messages that may lead us astray.
John 3:21 says, “But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”
Let us not be passive consumers of information but active participants in testing everything against the unwavering standard of God’s truth. By doing so, we will safeguard ourselves from being swayed by false teachings and instead grow stronger in our faith. So, dear brothers and sisters, let us take heed of Paul’s admonition and examine everything that comes our way. Let’s equip ourselves with the knowledge of God’s Word and consult Him before accepting any message as true.
With God’s guidance, we can navigate through a world filled with misinformation and hold steadfastly onto what is true and pleasing to Him. May your hearts be encouraged today, knowing you have been given the tools to distinguish between truth and falsehood. Remember, the truth is like sunlight, it may be temporarily hidden by clouds of misinformation, but it will always find its way to shine through. Amen. 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. Amen
