Unparalleled Teacher: Show and Tell
“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” Hebrews 4:15
Teachers come in all shapes and sizes. The type of teacher one encounters can vary drastically because each teacher brings something unique to their students. While some teachers focus on “Do as I say,” others bring more creative approaches to teaching. That’s why when we look up the most influential teachers in history, Jesus always comes as number one. Why? Because He used a variety of teaching methods to convey his message, showing and telling in ways that were unique and practical for yesterday, today, and forever.
Jesus is one of the most influential teachers in history. He was able to convey his teachings in a variety of ways that resonated with many different types of people and generations. He was the master of the show and tell, as evidenced by Hebrews 4:15, which states, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. In other words, Jesus was an effective teacher due to his ability to understand us and how we learn best. Remember, The greatest teachers are those who show, not just tell; they lead by example.
Hebrews 5:2 says, “He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and misguided since he himself is beset by weakness.”
Jesus’ capacity for empathy is our moral paradigm, as he could identify with the common human experience despite being a divine entity. This ability allowed him to empathize fundamentally with humankind and the struggles of everyday life, which included all types of temptation and suffering. Through his enduring trials, Jesus exemplifies perfect obedience to God’s will, despite being subject to the same tests and tribulations that plague us as mortal beings. Are you learning from Jesus?
This inspiring teacher was different than any other type of teacher; instead of lecturing his students from above a podium and having them take notes from textbooks, he came from heaven to earth to interact with us on the ground level. Jesus was able to connect with people in such a profound and meaningful way because he truly understood our struggles and heartaches. Jesus is an exceptional teacher with a powerful teaching technique that relies on both “show and tell.” Learn from Him. Psalm 25:9 says, “He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.”
Prayer:
Oh Lord, Teach me your way and lead me on a level path in Jesus’ name. Amen.
