What do You Pray for?

What do You Pray for?

“Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness. Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity, and quicken thou me in thy way.” Psalm 119:36-37.

We can pray for anything we want because God said He would answer us, but we should not forget that God also prioritized things accordingly. The psalmist understands the state of the heart when faced with the world’s riches when making choices between the will of God and the little sparkling things of this world. It can be challenging to follow His will in certain situations, so the psalmist went to the presence of God in prayers to find help and strength for his heart.

We need this type of prayer point in our lives to live the God-way in this world where money is dominating and controlling. We need to pray to God at all times to open our understanding and teach us His will and ways (vs. 32, 33). However, as we pray to God, we need to submit and allow Him to work on our eyes, heart, and life so that we will not be distracted from doing God’s will by the “vanities” of the world.

1 John 5:14 says, “And this is the confidence that we have before Him: If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”

At the end of your every prayer request, did you ask God, “let your will be done?” I understand that in the world today, people have more desire for money than they love God. It is straightforward to follow every money-filled means than to develop the ways of God. In the sight of many, money is a symbol of power, honor, success, and glory. Therefore, they value money more than God. The truth is that money can buy some enjoyment in this world, but it cannot buy you heavenly pleasures.

What is the advantage of buying pleasures that don’t last until eternity? Why would you prefer to invest your energy in things that will vanish in the end? We must always seek heavenly treasures rather than earthly vanities. Pray to God often, and He will guide your heart from such vainglory. Matthew 6:19 says, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.”

Prayer:
1. Lord, please give me the grace to follow your will.
2. Oh! Lord, pour on me your oil favor and mercy and pursue my adversaries to their destruction in Jesus’ name.
