What to do with Temptation!
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41
As Christian, we encounter temptations that can disrupt our relationship with God daily. Sometimes, you sin, and you know you should ask for forgiveness from God. You try to atone yourself with God, but something deep inside you is telling you, “Why bother asking for forgiveness since you will still commit the same sin again?”
The temptation to commit the same sin over and over again is there around you. Then you feel you have lost your standing with God, which will even make you go deeper into sin. But I want to tell you that there is a solution. What you can do when you are faced with temptation is to pray and watch.
Ephesians 6:11 says, “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”
Jesus told his disciples to watch and pray so as not to fall into temptation. He came in human form, and He knows our infirmities, so He knows that the flesh is weak to fight temptation. However, he has the power to strengthen our spirit. Do away with the distractions that can cause the temptation; it can be in the form of phones, social media, the TV programs you are exposed to, and friends.
Pray daily and flee from every appearance of evil. Be like Joseph; he ran away from his master’s wife and even left his cloth there, so he will not be tempted to sin against God. As you know, God is spirit, and everyone must worship him in spirit and truth. So, be filled with the spirit always, do not let your guards down, and God will help you to overcome. Luke 22:40 says, on reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”
1. Help me not to fall into temptation, dear God.
2. May the Lord deliver you and your loved one from every evil snare that is set against you in Jesus’ name. Amen.
