Enhancing Your Life Through Humility!
“Complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord, and of one mind.” Philippians 2:2
Humility, as articulated in Matthew 18:1-4, is a paradoxical concept that refers to an individual’s self-awareness of their insignificance and subservience to a greater power. It is the antithesis of pride and egocentricity, calling for an attitude of meekness and lowliness. Jesus serves us as an exemplary illustration of the importance of self-reflection and accountability, emphasizing the necessity of humility in achieving spiritual growth. By presenting us with a child, this passage metaphorically reinforces the concept that those who are humble will be exalted.
Similarly, it conveys that those who strive for prideful positions will ultimately be humiliated by their actions. Think of humility like a ladder: when we climb up the ladder of success, humility helps us stay humble and not forget what matters most. We can be proud of our achievements without getting too big for our britches. We must understand that no matter how much work we put into something or how high we climb, there will always be someone who has achieved more than us. That doesn’t take away from the hard work and dedication that got you here; it’s just a reminder to stay humble and never forget what got you here in the first place.
2 Corinthians 11:30 says, “If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.”
We should be proud of ourselves when things are going well, but this should come with humility. Instead of boasting about our achievements, focus on using them as inspiration to keep pushing forward and reach even higher goals. That’s why the Bible encourages us to have the same mindset as Jesus Christ, the mind of humility. Jesus Christ being equal with God, did not strife to claim equality with God or hold on to such. Humility is an important lesson demonstrated by Jesus Christ when he took on the form of a servant and came in the likeness of men. The Son of God humbly accepted his mission to save humankind from their sins and embraced his role as a servant for all humanity.
Jesus’s humility was seen throughout his life as he lived among ordinary people and during his final hours when he willingly died on the cross. Jesus’ ultimate act of selflessness serves as an example that provides insight into what it means to be humble. He showed us that we must put aside our pride, put away our selfishness, and submit ourselves to God’s will if we truly follow him. By following this example, those who place their faith in Christ can become more like him, living lives filled with love, joy, and humility just like Jesus did while here on earth. Philippians 2:7-8 says, “And been found in the appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross” Amen.
Prayer:
1. In the name of Jesus, I pray that the spirit of humility will fill my heart.
2. Holy Spirit grants me a humble heart to help me recognize my limitations, submit to God’s authority, and obey His word in Jesus’ name. Amen.
