Honor: The High Road to Victory! Part Four

Honor your father and mother so that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12

Honoring our parents is the greatest gift we can give ourselves, reaping rewards that will last a lifetime. When discussing honor that leads to victory, one cannot overlook the importance of showing respect towards our parents. The Bible instructs us in Deuteronomy 5:16 to “Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you.” This commandment holds significant weight as it is one of the ten commandments given by God himself.

Honoring our parents goes beyond simply obeying their rules or fulfilling their wishes. It involves showing them genuine love, respect, and appreciation for all they have done for us. Our parents have sacrificed much of their time, energy, and resources in order to provide for us and give us a good life. It is only fitting that we honor them in return by treating them with kindness and reverence. Even though you don’t have all that you think you should have, honoring our parents is a gift we give ourselves, as it brings us closer to the source of wisdom and love.

Leviticus 19:32 says, “You shall stand up before the gray head and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God: I am the Lord.”

It is an act of love that brings us its rewards. It is a moral obligation and a way of showing gratitude toward those who have raised and nurtured us. In the Bible, Deuteronomy 5:16 commands us to honor our fathers and mothers so that we may live long and prosper in the land that the LORD your God is giving you. This commandment not only applies to children but also to adults who still have living parents. Honoring our parents is like filling up a piggy bank, as every act of gratitude and respect towards them builds a rich and rewarding relationship that benefits us in the long run.

Honoring our parents has numerous benefits for us as well. For one, it strengthens family bonds and promotes respect within the household. When we show our parents love and appreciation, it sets an example for future generations to follow. Moreover, honoring our parents provides emotional support during difficult times like illnesses or losing loved ones. Parents are often the first line of defense when providing comfort and guidance during tough times. Therefore, honoring our parents is like investing in ourselves, as their blessings and guidance help us become better individuals and lead fulfilling lives. Amen. Ephesians 6:1 says, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”

Prayer:
1. Oh Lord, thank you for giving me the strength to continue my faith in Jesus Christ.
2. God, I pray that you continue to guide me in my life by encouraging me through the holy spirit to continue to be obedient to you.
