What is Your Choice? 4

“… Now, therefore, come, let us surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they keep us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall only die.” 2 Kings 7:4

The fact that the lepers were able to see their condition was in itself interesting and promising. Lastly, their third choice was to plead for mercy from their enemy -Syria. As we know, Syria was at war with Israel, and the Syrian armies were determined to destroy the Israelites utterly.

They laid siege to Samaria and out rightly cut them off from supplies with the sole aim of starving them to death. Their decision doesn’t sound like they will change their minds talk less about having compassion for the dying city. The lepers made up their mind to “fall unto the Syrians’ host” because; there was no other reasonable choice for them if they wished to live.

Colossians 1:27 says, “To them, God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

If they go to the city, they will die; staying back also meant death. So, this was the only hope for life. How hopeless would it had been for someone to plead for mercy from an enemy that has determined to destroy you. Their disposition was that “if they save us alive, we shall live, and if they kill us, we shall die.” These four lepers indeed were pessimistic, but that was their only hope.

They got rid of their lethargic state of mind and made a life-changing decision. Having been blessed by their actions, they thought it wise not to keep quiet, but they informed others. As Christians, there is no one we can turn to for deliverance to the Lord Almighty. Why do you have to sit still and die when you have Jesus Christ close to you? Open up your heart, see God in your life, and not the troubles. 1 John 3:3 says, “everyone who thus hopes in God purifies himself as he is pure.”

1. I receive the grace to overcome barriers and limitations, holding me back from my testimonies in Jesus’ name.
2. Psalm 9:18 “For the needy shall not always be forgotten, and the hope of the poor shall not perish forever.”
