“Behold, you desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part, you will make me know wisdom.” Psalm 51:6
Once, the LORD sent Nathan to David. When Nathan arrived, he shared a story with David. In a certain city, there were two men – one was wealthy, and the other was poor. The rich man had many sheep and cattle, but the poor man had only one small ewe lamb that he had bought. He cared for it like a daughter, which was dear to him. One day, a traveler came to the rich man’s house, and instead of using his own animals to prepare a meal for the guest, he took the poor man’s beloved lamb and prepared it for his visitor.
Upon hearing this story, David became furious and stormed out of the room. His face flushed with anger as he clenched his fists, unable to contain his rage. He asked Himself, “How could someone do this to his fellow men under my kingdom? David’s mind raced with thoughts of retribution as he struggled to control his emotions before he finally declared that the man who did such a thing deserved to die for his lack of compassion. However, when Nathan said to David, “You are that man! He knew things would never be the same again (Story from 2 Samuel 12).
Exodus 20:17 says, “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.”
Now, reflect on your actions in light of this story and consider whether you show kindness and empathy towards others as you should be. Again, consider this tale and ponder the response your conscience would provide because the story teaches us different lessons about the greediness of life and how we judge others. Consider your treatment toward others and whether it aligns with what is just and right. Recall the Golden Rule spoken by Jesus in Matthew 7:12, emphasizing the importance of treating others as you would wish to be treated.
Similar to Nathan’s storytelling approach with David, envision God asking you about your conscience, seeking the inner truth guiding your decisions and actions. Reflect on whether your conduct reflects traits such as haughtiness, deceit, violence, wickedness, eagerness for evil, falsehoods, or sowing discord among people, as outlined in Proverbs 6:16-19. I pray that every word we speak and every action we take be a reflection of Christ’s unwavering love for all humanity. Amen. Psalm 51:17 says, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart— These, Oh God, you will not despise.” Amen.
Prayer for Today!
1. Oh Lord, grant us the strength to extend forgiveness and understanding, just as God’s boundless mercy has forgiven and understood us. Help us show empathy towards those who may have wronged us, offering them the same unending love that Christ has shown to us.
2. May our actions inspire others to embrace unity, peace, and harmony among all people, regardless of their background or beliefs. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
